ADVANCED ARCHITECTURAL CONSTRUCTION
ARC60104
The module introduces the principles and practices of construction technology for long-span and tall buildings. It focuses on the construction systems of basement, building façade and envelope systems as well as steel construction. It also covers the new and recent construction technologies and systems including modular construction (MC) and Industrialised Building System (IBS).
ASSESMENT 1:
This is a group assignment which predominantly relates to the topics of Industrialised Building System (IBS). We were introduced to different types and methods of the IBS system and the calculation of IBS scoring in the classroom. First, the group are require to design a 3-storey apartment block using mainly IBS components. The group has to construct a physical sectional model of the building to show the IBS components in detail.

ASSESMENT 2:
Industrialised Building System
This assignment is aligned with the Studio Design Project (semester 2) and facilitates the technical studies and development of their design. It deals with the analysis and establishment of the structural and the envelope systems of the design to ensure that the design has logical and workable construction systems. It also encourages to think about construction as integral part of the design and not just an afterthought. Most of the times amateur designers tend to design their spaces without thinking about the construction aspects and later on have to change and redesign their schemes due to the designs were unbuildable. This assignment was designed with the intention to tackle this issue and to increase the technical competency of students.
ASSESMENT 3:
Final Examination
Final Examination was conducted physically and was based on all the topics that were taught during lectures throughout the 14 week period of semester 4.
